The story of the Chanel 2.55
A look back at the creation of a legendary bag that transformed luxury leather goods.

Février 1955
The bag's name comes from its creation date: February 1955. Gabrielle Chanel solved a very practical problem — freeing up one's hands — with a metal chain that allowed for shoulder wear, then unusual in the leather goods of the era.
2.55 or Timeless: The Most Frequent Confusion
The 2.55 is recognisable by its rectangular clasp, known as the 'Mademoiselle', and its entirely metallic chain. The Timeless Classic Flap, which appeared later under Karl Lagerfeld, features the intertwined CC clasp and the leather-intertwined chain.
Both models coexist today in the catalogue and on the pre-owned market, at distinct price points.
What to Check When Buying Pre-Owned
